mornings

{when leaving the house this morning a guy saw me taking pics and said, "do you like this?", (pointing to the flowers) and I replied, "yes, I love this"}

{newbury & dartmouth for morning coffee}

promise this blog isn't going to turn into this...

series to start back again very soon!

it's happening...

my favorite time of the year is finally happening...spring in boston

such an inspirational season...wish I had a little easel to set up at the river and paint all day

happy spring!

p.s. I fully apologize in advance for any excessive posting of these types of photographs over the next couple of weeks

polished up

running a bit late this week with the series...
but I have to say..
this new polish:

reminds me of a bright spring day.
it's gorgeous in person...
not too pink and not too purple.
and the name isn't too shabby either...

also, tiffany suggest this one...

she says it's a perfect transitional color from Winter to Spring.
is feminine, yet an understated girly color.

I have yet to try it, but now I will...

be back soon with the series, just a bit slammed with school and work this week!

hope you're having a fabulous day!

spring bliss

I wanted to finish up week 2 with a post about all the bargains that I passed up {with extreme difficulty} this week, but instead I'm going to post this photograph that has been recently added to my inspiration files.  The bright colors, moth painting, flowers, stacks of books, art, pillows, desk...it all reminds me of spring.  The season officially starts tomorrow and I couldn't be more thrilled to put my heavy jackets away. In fact, it's already getting a bit warmer.  Last night I actually sat outside at one of my favorite tapas bars with this girl for sangria. yum.

I'm having so much fun reading about all the bargains you have all passed up!  Thanks for entering and if you haven't yet, you still can up until tonight here.  Have a wonderful weekend!

sun is good.

Yesterday I had the day off, and my boyfriend took the day off. So we escaped to Cape Cod for a short day trip.  The weather was unbelievable.  It was nice to see the beach and sun again, very peaceful and relaxing.  A few pictures from the day...

i know our slaps are a bit cliché...

have to leave you with lucky, we met him after he took a dip. friendly little guy.  how fitting is his name for St. Patrick's Day? he was a bundle of love.

oh how I'd love to live at the beach.

back to reality...

*Don't forget to enter the giveaway, you have until Friday at midnight!

sure things for spring

Fun article in O Magazine this month from fashion insiders on the "Five Sure Things For Spring". There are some lovely tidbits from Jenna Lyon, including J.Crew's mantra for Spring, "borrowed from the boys"....and this little shot into their office. Love the inspiration wall, the pink table, the chairs and of course all the perfectly stacked, {absolutely gorgeous} rows of bright yellow luggage! Makes me excited for Spring...although from the looks of my last post, you can see it's far from here!

biker chic

Long ago before the internet and wii, there was a time when kids played outside a lot.  I'm noticing more and more that kids are happier indoors {I'm sure there are millions that do love the outdoors, this is just in my experience lately}.

Well, I miss those days where everyone hung around outside until the street lights came on.  As a kid in our family, we used to ride bikes until we were forced to come inside.

I don't think I ever got sick of riding my bike, I could have biked from California to New York if my parents would have let me.  And maybe because of my passion, to this day I'm drawn to images of bikes.

I just parted with a poster {I had for years} of a bike in Paris with a huge bouquet and fresh baguettes hanging out of the basket.  It was torn and I was very sad to let it go.

I still think there is something incredibly romantic about photographs of bikes...I imagine couples riding off into sunsets on them and living happily ever after.

At the present time, I would love a cruiser for little rides around town.  Ideally I would ride to the Farmers market and bring home some delicious organic goods and fresh flowers.

and I'll leave you with this photograph:

Tiffany snapped this one in Salem, MA when she came to visit.  I adore this photograph.  I need to frame it.

Love bikes!  Wish they were easier to store in our tiny apartment!

A Striped Spring

I'm loving the striped rugs lately:
I adore how the florals are mixed with the stripes here:
and the more modern stripes:
and a bit traditional room with stripes {I would really like to take that pup by the way}:
So, I couldn't pass up this striped rug for $6 at a local store that I found.  Our room is very tiny...so it works perfectly.
I also picked up this fabric for a steal.  I knew I wanted to use pieces of it to bring a little spring into this space:
I cut out a couple of the flowers from the yard of fabric and framed them.  I also made another DIY no sew pillow with the fabric {seen below} and do not like it, not a fan at all.
For now, I've borrowed the pillows from the sofa and repeated the black frame in these pillows below.
Another thrift store find on the bedside table...this little bowl:
and I've covered a few books in this paper from paper source that you can see on the bedside shelf {one sheet covered three books}.
This is before I took the wild blue lamp out of the bedroom...I still think I like it in it's other spot better.  And I believe I've overused this dec pillow one too many times.  I guess I really like it...
Anyway, that's it...just a couple of little changes for the Spring. I only have a few more projects that I've been working on that I first mentioned here and here.  Today you can see another tiny project I've been working on over at Live Creating Yourself.

Off to class...hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Thrifty

Over the weekend I finally started checking off some of my small projects on my list!  Like I said in my last post, these are not super exciting projects...

As a preface, I'm really wanting spring to hurry up and get here...and you can really tell that's the theme going on in our apartment right now. It's looking really floral and really girlie, which is not it's usual style.

Our coffee table is LONG and I wanted a way to break it up and make it not look so sparse. I hit up a couple of local thrift stores and found these gorgeous gold mirrors for $1.  I knew I wanted to use them for something, and thought they were the perfect way to break up the table a bit.

more thrift shop finds...this milk glass and this little vase:

and I found this little plate and funky gold pitcher for practically nothing...

I also found this lamp for a few bucks, I liked the shape so

I decided to paint it a light blue with Krylon indoor/outdoor spray paint:

not sure if I love the light blue yet, this lamp is now on my desk {which is another project I'm working on...}

Lastly, I'm almost positive this isn't new news to anyone {just to me} but I made that graphic pillow in the top photograph for $3.50 in 5 minutes.  Also shown here:

with this:
Side note: When I brought home the fabric for the above pillow, my boyfriend asked if I had a thing for geometric fabrics lately...since he brought it to my attention, I took a quick inventory of my stash:

Maybe he is right, I can't believe I have the same fabric in two different colors!  Time to seriously lay off the geometric fabrics for a while.

Anyway, I could spend hours in second hand shops... and most of these items came from a new one I just found.

Anyone hunting at their local thrift stores lately?

Spring Semester

I can't believe Spring Semester is almost here, just a few weeks away!  I wish the break was a bit longer...but I've put together a few must have items that make starting the semester more enjoyable.

Spring Semester

  1. Wrap Sweater: Perfect for classes, wore mine a little too much last semester
  2. Jack Purcell's: Haven't worn these in years, would be perfect for the Spring.  It's not quite sandal weather here in Boston and won't be for a while.
  3. Bag: Must have to carry all binders, books, etc.
  4. Scarf: Perfect accessory for the Spring
  5. Background: Desk Calendar by Paper Source, love the prints
School Supplies

  1. Avery Contemporary Color Tabs Divider: In my experience, I find keeping a binder with tabs is the easiest way to keep my courses organized... and the use of sheet protectors.
  2. Cosmetic Bag: Best way to keep pens, highlighters and everything else organized
  3. Planner: Must have
  4. Notebook: College Ruled Notebook
  5. Kiehl's Lip Balm: Favorite
  6. Pens: Cheapest ones are my favorite, love sharpies and sharpies highlighters
  7. Post It Flags & White Out: Just little items that make class easier
  8. File Folders: Keep projects organized
  9. Blackberry {not pictured}
Most my supplies are also favorites in the office too, and there are many more but I didn't want to go too overboard here...

I would love to hear from you:
  • What's your favorite Spring accessory?
  • Is there one item you must have to keep you organized @ the office or school?
