+ FRIDAY FAVES IN THE CITY: WOODHOUSE FISH CO.

i-phone pic

Hide your myfitness pal apps, health journals and put your expandable pants on because if you go to Woodhouse Fish Co. you have to go big or go home.  And when I say go big, I mean go for the Fried Ipswich Clam Roll.

Now before I get into anymore details, allow me to share some background on why I love this nugget so much. Chris & I have a special tie to ipswich clams.  When we order this dish it not only delights our senses, but is overwhelmingly nostalgic.

Before we even moved to Boston I had a third cousin who told us we had to visit the "Clam Box" located in Ipswich for their famous fried clams:

We did as he said and visited several times- and each and every time we waddled back to the car in a blissful clam coma.

can't believe this was taken 2 years ago! time flies...

So imagine our excitement when we were looking for a spot to grab dinner one night before a movie (btw- the SF Kabuki for a movie is the only way to go- you can pick your seat before hand, you can BOOZE while you watch- as in there is a 21+ section that sells wine and beer and... you sit in big bucket seats- but, i digress...) and found the Woodhouse Fish Co. and realized they sold this mouthwatering sandwich.

other reasons why this place made friday faves:

+ their "Hartford Clam Chowder" - Chris & I try to be good (knowing we are about to crush huge fried clam rolls) and share one which ends up being a battle of who can eat the fastest because it's that delicous...a combo of two chowders- 3/4 creamy new england clam chowder and 1/4 tomato manhattan chowder- heaven in a bowl
+ the decor makes you feel like you're right on the water-
+ diy Arnold Palmers at the table- they bring you the goods, you make it yourself
+ convenient before movie spot (see above)
+ the lobster roll and crab roll are also insane

Well, I know what I'm having for dinner.

Have a great weekend!

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  I wanted to say thank you so much for your kind words about our engagement photographs, it really does mean a lot to us.  Also, a few asked about the jacket in the last photograph, it's from anthro and I can't seem to find it anymore on their website.  If I find any links to it, I will be sure to share.

I have a lot of photographs from the past couple of weeks...above are a handful taken in MA, VT and NH.  We finally got snow, but unfortunately it wasn't on Christmas Day!   We still had a really nice Christmas despite the fact we weren't able to get home to be with family {and no snow falling}.  We did LOTS of baking, cooking and eating.  I will have to post a few recipes!

How was everyone's Christmas?

christmas came early!

WARNING: Long post filled with camera talk and a few run-on sentences.  Feel free to skip down to photographs or skip this post in it's entirety.

I finally graduated past my point and shoot to a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens {opened my Christmas gift that I've been coveting for a few years now early!}.  I have absolutely no idea how to use it just yet, but plan to very soon.  I've taken the last 24 hours to mess around with the camera without reading any manuals to get myself familiar with some of the settings.  Now comes the part where I need to be patient and study, study, study until I can understand how to use it.  If you have that one thing you must know about a Nikon D90 tip and feel like sharing, I would be thrilled.

*Also, I have to say that the Canon PowerShot is an incredible camera and I would highly recommend it to anyone.  It's the camera that I've used up until this point.  The only problems I've had with it: 1. Sometimes it takes horrible night photographs, typically blurry and 2. Not great for even the slightest movement.  Otherwise, this camera is ideal for everyday activities and especially micro shots.

In other news, we chopped down our Christmas Tree yesterday at our favorite place, Smolak Farms with this lovely lady and her husband.
 {the farm}
 {did 99% of the work while I warmed up several times in the car}
 {but managed to take this photograph so it looks like I was a big help...weeds to the right: our nightmare later when hidden all over tree}
{everyone loves Santa on a tractor?!}
and finally...the tree ready for decorating!
{please pay no attention to our disgusting radiator and windows}

I'm so thankful and excited about the camera...and I hope to not post too many underwhelming photographs in the near future! Hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving and a fabulous weekend!

Did anyone else get a tree?  Or begin decorating?

leaf love {+ some weekend}.

This weekend we had a friend in town and made our way through new hampshire, ending in maine with a few famous maine lobsters.  I left out the photographs of pumpkin carving, costume wearing {went to a party last minute and I was not happy wearing the same costume I've worn too many times} and patriots game, but needless to say we stayed very busy.  I'm ready for a vacation after the weekend...isn't that always the case?

Anyway, I loved these colorful photographs too much not to share.  Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!  Oh, and if you get a chance I'm guest posting over here today.

happy november 1st!

appleicious.

Since moving to New England, one of my favorite past times in the fall is apple picking.  We've made it now a tradition to annually visit Smolak Farms for our apples, christmas trees, delicious warm apple cider and cider doughnuts.  I imagine the people with professional cameras had a field day at this farm {I saw many people with them}, BUT, here's what I managed to capture with my little point and shoot.  I truly enjoy photographing on farms, outdoors, etc.

I have never attempted to make apple crisp or apple pie and I would love to try both.  My go-to is typically apple cider and apple sauce.  If you have any tips on making either a pie or crisp, I would love to hear them!  I will post on how both turn out.  Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and getting a chance to soak in the new Lonny Mag!  LOVE this issue.

currently...

1. Very excited that Jamie's new online store is finally open:
2. I'm taking a quick trip to NYC this weekend, I might need to stop here just to check it out.  AND would love any other suggestions of your favorite places...

3. Summer isn't over just yet...and I don't think I've had enough Sangria.  I would like to try this recipe out that Tiffany just sent over.

4. Since Montreal is only a 5 hour drive from Boston, I'm planning a last minute trip and would LOVE if anyone has any suggestions to add to my list.

5. and lastly, this inspiration board has me longing for Fall.  Although I don't want to rush it {see # 3}, I am looking forward to cozy sweaters, boots, cider, apple picking and to see the leaves change here in New England.   What about you?  Are you ready for Fall?

weekend recap: independence and paninis

Yes, I'm on a roll today...

After this event on Saturday, we headed just outside of the city to one of the most famous sites in American Independence, Lexington and Concord, although not my idea, became quickly an incredible journey.

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year"
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Seeing his house was surreal...

the famous North Bridge {the reconstructed North Bridge in Minute Man National Historical Park, Concord}

{just to be clear...there are no attendees of UGA here}

and then we went into town and had a visit at nesting on main:

I want to bottle up all of these and put them on my imaginary mantle:
lots of little rooms tucked away in this sweet attic shop

and look at the floors! l-o-v-e
oh and if you go to nesting on main, you have to go here:
and try their homemade new england crabcake panini:

Question: What is your favorite way to soak up history?  On site?  In a book?  Television?
