Shabby Spotted

I can spot Shabby Chic furniture from a mile away and recently spotted it.  I worked there a while back with the most wonderful ladies...from stylist to interior designers, the place was filled with talented women.  But I digress.

This month House Beautiful is featuring the home of photographer Amy Neunsinger, {who photographed for Shabby Chic books} and many pieces in her home are from the store.  Shabby pieces can be placed in many different styles of homes, which isn't always how many think.  In my opinion, Neunsinger uses the pieces in very different ways and I wanted to show how although the store might be filled with one style, it doesn't mean the pieces have to be placed in the same environment as merchandised.  I also think that by adding a Shabby touch, it can warm up an industrial space.

There are a few rooms that don't apply, but I wanted to add.  For example, this kitchen.  I love the farmhouse sink, the exposed air ducts, the floors and several other elements:

The two pairs of double glass doors here are an entrance to the 1952's house's old sunroom:

Here on the cover is where the Shabby begins...the chair, sofa and pillows are from there.  But again, this is a way this style of furniture can be used but in a less Shabby way.

Same room:

This room on the other hand is significantly the girlie girl Shabby Chic.  That headboard and bedset is most definitely Shabby:

The chandelier is from Shabby, but the chairs are from Pottery Barn.  This is the old master bath in the home, they left the raw concrete walls.  The chandelier up against the raw material makes the space feel warmer.

Love all the natural light in this bathroom:

The home has many other rooms, but it's hard to post them due to small size! I hope I opened up your eyes to mixing and matching from stores that may not necessarily be your style.
And lastly, a few of Neunsinger's gorgeous photographs:

  2. I just received my House Beautiful this weekend and read it cover to cover. Great images, they are both elegant and relaxed at the same time-the perfect combination.

  3. I always liked Shabby Chic. I have three of Rachels books. I like how you showed that if you use shabby chic, your home doesn't neccesarily have to look all shabby chic. I'd say my home is a little shabby chic, mixed with other designs as well.

  12. What I love about the Shabby Chic look is the mix of things: girlie/ruffly with industrial/edgy. Soft and rough textures. Love that.

  18. I absolutely adore the exposed air ducts - it's very reminiscent of an old warehouse or factory. Love it! There's actually a Red Robin restaurant near me that has similar decor - tres fabulous!! :)
