I can spot Shabby Chic furniture from a mile away and recently spotted it. I worked there a while back with the most wonderful ladies...from stylist to interior designers, the place was filled with talented women. But I digress.
This month House Beautiful is featuring the home of photographer Amy Neunsinger, {who photographed for Shabby Chic books} and many pieces in her home are from the store. Shabby pieces can be placed in many different styles of homes, which isn't always how many think. In my opinion, Neunsinger uses the pieces in very different ways and I wanted to show how although the store might be filled with one style, it doesn't mean the pieces have to be placed in the same environment as merchandised. I also think that by adding a Shabby touch, it can warm up an industrial space.
There are a few rooms that don't apply, but I wanted to add. For example, this kitchen. I love the farmhouse sink, the exposed air ducts, the floors and several other elements:
The two pairs of double glass doors here are an entrance to the 1952's house's old sunroom:
Here on the cover is where the Shabby begins...the chair, sofa and pillows are from there. But again, this is a way this style of furniture can be used but in a less Shabby way.
Same room:
This room on the other hand is significantly the girlie girl Shabby Chic. That headboard and bedset is most definitely Shabby:
The chandelier is from Shabby, but the chairs are from Pottery Barn. This is the old master bath in the home, they left the raw concrete walls. The chandelier up against the raw material makes the space feel warmer.
Love all the natural light in this bathroom:
The home has many other rooms, but it's hard to post them due to small size! I hope I opened up your eyes to mixing and matching from stores that may not necessarily be your style.
And lastly, a few of Neunsinger's gorgeous photographs:

Great post! I loved this article in House Beautiful too, but I didn't recognize the Shabby Chic furniture. I really enjoyed your insight.
ReplyDeleteI just received my House Beautiful this weekend and read it cover to cover. Great images, they are both elegant and relaxed at the same time-the perfect combination.
ReplyDeleteI always liked Shabby Chic. I have three of Rachels books. I like how you showed that if you use shabby chic, your home doesn't neccesarily have to look all shabby chic. I'd say my home is a little shabby chic, mixed with other designs as well.
ReplyDeleteThe pics are great, kind of vintage looking! Thank you for the time you spent to share via scanning, etc. I love the bathroom with natural lighting, the room with the chandelier, and the last image of the beautiful claw foot tub.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! Love all the natural light and white!
ReplyDeleteloved this home in the issue. I keep on going back to it. that kitchen is to die for.
ReplyDeleteI liked this house it was really pretty, EXCEPT the bedroom. Not really a fan of all the frilly white, it is like super-max-girlie :)
ReplyDeleteLove that dining table though with the chairs, so very my taste...oh wait I have the same thing :)
When is our Boston get-together going to be?
I wish I had that lovely natural lighting in my bathroom!!

I haven't received my House Beautiful yet. I hope it didn't get lost in the mail with my address change. I love her photos. They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about the Shabby Chic look is the mix of things: girlie/ruffly with industrial/edgy. Soft and rough textures. Love that.
ReplyDeleteI heard they are re-opening the Shabby Chic store in Soho! Beyond excited!
ReplyDeleteThat white fluffy bed is so dreamy and perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteLove the kitchen, chandelier and tub! Great finds! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI loved that issue of House Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove so many of these lovely images, thanks for sharing! I really need to go pick up that issue of HB
ReplyDeleteLove how comfy the touches of shabby make the rooms! Think I might have to pick up that issue of HB.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the exposed air ducts - it's very reminiscent of an old warehouse or factory. Love it! There's actually a Red Robin restaurant near me that has similar decor - tres fabulous!! :)
ReplyDeleteI loved that article. I am definitely not a shabby chic kind of girl but I think a mix is great.
ReplyDeleteI have always liked shabby chic. It's girly and cozy. If I were not married, my house would be way more shabby
ReplyDeleteDivine green tub!!
