Organizing Tip of the Week: Let go of one item

I'm going to try my best to start posting more organization inspiration around here.  This weeks tip: Let go of something and then donate, pass on to a friend or if it's in bad condition...throw out.  I've had these little red ballet flats forever and they hurt my feet bad, but I've kept them in my closet.  I then forget they hurt, and find myself wearing them again in a rush.  They are taking up valuable space in the tiny closet that my fiance and I both share and I'm now forcing myself to donate.  I know we all have "stuff" that we don't use and are holding onto, so I encourage you this weekend to get rid of one thing {or more}.  If you decide to do it, would love to know what you pick?

Have a great weekend!

  3. Great tip. Just one thing a day. I keep a shopping bag around and drop things into it when the mood strikes.

  5. I definitely have a few things I could relinquish. All anyone has to do is watch a Hoarders episode for motivation to unload unwanted items.

  9. I did this in January and now I adore going into my closest! It feels so much better in there and now I have room to buy a few items that I will really wear! M.

  10. I just cleaned out my closet and finally got rid of all my "skinny" clothes. You know, the ones that haven't fit in years and years and never will :) I finally gave up the hope and now have so much more space in my closet for new things!! Haha.

  12. Hi there! I just fund you and I am doing the same thing this weekend. I have a pair of black ballet flats that are darling but hurt my feet. I have no idea why I have kept them but I decided they need to go. Already I have 2 large bags of things for the GW. It feels so good to get rid of things that are still so great that someone else can use!

New follower! Love for you to stop by!

  14. This post made me immediately think of a handful of things I need to ditch. One is a cookbook...it's nice but it's one I never use. Three pairs of shoes that I can no longer wear, which makes me sad because they're gorgeous & expensive! And a lovely wool coat I haven't worn in years. They'll make someone very happy I'm sure.

  15. I'm in that situation, too! I have a weird emotional thing with my shoes, even if I can't imagine the next time I would subject my feet to their pain!

  18. I love this idea! I set aside a sweater to give away. It's a bit "snug" and I seem to thing I can still wear it. The sleeves are too short and I realized the other day (when I had the sweater on) how ridiculous I actually looked. :) So it's set aside for another home. I think I'll try purging something once a week! Thanks for the tip!

  20. I also have two pairs of pretty shoes that just hurt too much to use... have to get rid of them.

Yesterday I took 30 old interior and fashion magazines to the local library. They have a box where everyone can bring and take books and magazines.
