christmas came early!

WARNING: Long post filled with camera talk and a few run-on sentences.  Feel free to skip down to photographs or skip this post in it's entirety.

I finally graduated past my point and shoot to a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens {opened my Christmas gift that I've been coveting for a few years now early!}.  I have absolutely no idea how to use it just yet, but plan to very soon.  I've taken the last 24 hours to mess around with the camera without reading any manuals to get myself familiar with some of the settings.  Now comes the part where I need to be patient and study, study, study until I can understand how to use it.  If you have that one thing you must know about a Nikon D90 tip and feel like sharing, I would be thrilled.

*Also, I have to say that the Canon PowerShot is an incredible camera and I would highly recommend it to anyone.  It's the camera that I've used up until this point.  The only problems I've had with it: 1. Sometimes it takes horrible night photographs, typically blurry and 2. Not great for even the slightest movement.  Otherwise, this camera is ideal for everyday activities and especially micro shots.

In other news, we chopped down our Christmas Tree yesterday at our favorite place, Smolak Farms with this lovely lady and her husband.
 {the farm}
 {did 99% of the work while I warmed up several times in the car}
 {but managed to take this photograph so it looks like I was a big help...weeds to the right: our nightmare later when hidden all over tree}
{everyone loves Santa on a tractor?!}
and finally...the tree ready for decorating!
{please pay no attention to our disgusting radiator and windows}

I'm so thankful and excited about the camera...and I hope to not post too many underwhelming photographs in the near future! Hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving and a fabulous weekend!

Did anyone else get a tree?  Or begin decorating?

    I did put out a few decorations, but we're going to wait a bit before buying our tree (we're going on vacation, and I would hate to leave it unattended).

  39. I don't know how far you've come with getting to know your camera, but I bet you've taken lots and lots of pictures! One thing I would definitely purchase is either a book about the D90 (there are plenty around - just look on amazon and read the customer ratings) or a general book about digital photography. I don't have a specific one for my Nikon but it really helped me to read a general guide for SLRs. Hope that helps. Enjoy your camera!
