As I continue to bring more organization inspiration to the blog, I thought I would give my top 5 tips/products for organizing in the bathroom.
1. All White Towels {including bathmats}
{via}
You can always bleach them, wash them in hot water, etc. If one ever gets ruined or lost, it's much easier to replace with any white towel then search for the previous ones you had. If you can, invest in a set of high quality towels so you don't have to replace often. Mine have lasted me for years.
2. Baskets
{via}
For years I've lived in very small quarters which means that I haven't always had storage in my tiny bathrooms. I believe this old saying is true for a small bathroom, "a place for everything and every thing in it's place". I have found that baskets help make this saying much easier {especially when you have multiple people living in a place}. My fiance & I each have our own baskets with our personal items in them. Like the above photograph, I keep a basket in the closet for extra towels and roll them up and put inside. Saves a ton of space. In the closet, you can also organize items in baskets that you don't use often, like sunscreen and other beach/camping products. Cost Plus has a ton of options if you're in the market and you can always find baskets at Marshalls, Homegoods, Michaels Craft Stores...
3. Jars for Q-tips, Cotton Balls, Soap and everything else
{via}
{via}
Having q-tips, cotton balls and soap within reach speeds up the time you spend in the bathroom and keeps the space extremely organized. In the past I have grabbed recycled jars, vases, or anything else I have around the house before purchasing anything new. If I don't find what I need then I buy West Elm's jars and Crate & Barrels Taylor Small Hurricane. The hurricane has no lid which makes for easy grabbing. You can also add sand to one to store various sizes of makeup brushes, lipsticks, etc. Lastly, filling a hurricane with inexpensive white soap makes for a nice display and easy access.
4. Glass Pumps for Soap, Shampoo & Conditioner
{via}
Instead of buying a new soap dispenser every time we run out I've started using glass bottles and refilling. I also love using them in the shower for shampoo and conditioner. My favorite are from Target and seen above.
5. Plastic drawers
{via}
If you're tight on storage, little drawers are a huge space saver {I keep mine in the linen closet}. You can find them at Target for cheap. I like to store travel size products in one drawer, extra toothpaste/toothbrushes in one, etc. If you want to take your organizing to another level, label each drawer.

There are several other tips I can think of, but I'll talk about those later. For now, I leave you with these 5. Also, if you're already organized in the bathroom, you can always try adding a little paper to the back of your medicine cabinet {really great for renters who can't paint their bathrooms}. Makes getting ready in the morning a bit more enjoyable.
My guest bath is very small so I am always looking for great organization idea. This is a great post. Thanks.

Love the tip about the white towels. I'm one of those people who has a strong desire (bordering on insanity) that my linens be absolutely clean and sanitized before each use. I LOVE bleaching my towels, they feel so clean afterward. I also recommend white sheets for the same reason, especially in guest bedrooms.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like to label each of my boxes, baskets and bins with a vintage gift tag. This way, if the bin fits onto the shelf without much space to see in, you don't even have to pull it out to find what you're looking for. My husband calls it insanity, I call it laziness =)
Great post! Loving the organization ideas~keep them coming!

I have the same soap dispenser in my bathroom, how funny!! I like the idea that you use it for shampoo/conditioner as well. So glad we met tonight.. I haven't come across any organizing blogs yet so I'm really glad I found one!

Everyone thinks I am crazy for having all white towels- it's nice to hear other people think it works great too! Even if you have to replace one and it doesn't match it hard to tell. And they are soooo much easier to keep clean {acne products among others can stain and bleach colored towels}.
ReplyDeleteI love all of this...I happen to have a couple of those hurricanes from Crate & Barrel and will be getting them out for use in the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteThe jars are a good idea. Very nice and "motivating" post. It's always great to see organized bathrooms. I think it's a reflection of one's character. Thanks for sharing! I'm super hooked to your blog :)
ReplyDeleteLovely ideas. for me, however, I just cannot fathom taking a chance of breaking glass in the shower.
ReplyDeleteI've dropped the shampoo in the shower so many times I'd be scared to use the glass shampoo dispenser. Have you seen that style in plastic?
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it in plastic. I placed my bottles against the wall and just hit the pump, never picking up the bottle (not sure if that helps). It still is dangerous to have glass in the shower. You have to be really careful.
