New Bowls & A Question

We have a bowl problem at our house.  You know the saying, "the washing machine ate my socks?", well I think our dishwasher eats our bowls.  Or something...all I know is we started out with a ton when we moved here, and now we have a few.  My point is, I finally bought some on sale at Anthro last week and I'm obsessed.

They are the perfect size and all that jazz.  If you're in need, I highly suggest them.  By the way, strawberries right off the vine are life changing.

Here's my question.  What's your secret guacamole ingredient?  You know you have one. I must make it 3 times a week and I'm always looking for a new recipe.  My favorite way to make it?  With mango, red onion, tomato, garlic, Himalayan pink salt, lemon and serve in endive leaves or with salmon.

I'd love to hear your favorite ingredient, secret ingredient, or any other delicious tips you have!

  1. WOW. Your guacamole sounds amaaazing! I've actually never made it before. I don't know why, but I was always afraid I'd somehow screw up the recipe. So thanks for sharing yours! :)

  5. Strawberries = heaven! I just love them.

I happen to make guac on the regular as well. I use, tomato, onion, fresh cilantro (pinch depending on how much your making), sea salt, fresh squeezed lime juice, garlic and if you want to make alot for a party add cottage cheese. I do not ever ever eat cottage cheese! But you add it to guac and it just doubles what you have made and tastes wonderful!

  6. Confession: I buy it already made and stir in this little packet at my grocery store. I don't have much luck with avocados. :)

  21. I have the opposite problem, I keep collecting bowls. Spoons on the other hand disappear like crazy.

I think the secret to guacamole is the combination. My fiance uses avocado, lime, jalapeno, garlic, cilantro, red onion, and salt (nothing special) but it's the best guacamole in the world. I love the idea of Christmas guacamole, though!

  24. I learned this recipe while living in Mexican food country LA....finely chop red onion, tomato, jalapeno, garlic, add roasted corn (roast bag of frozen corn or buy finished roasted corn from trader joes), add all this to the avacado (mushed or chopped)....secret ingredients are cumin and apple cider vinegar (you can pretty much add these by taste, but you use a fair amount of vinegar). I'm telling you it is AMAZING...everyone asks how to make this!!

  25. I think everyone's already mentioned my ingredients (avocado, a little garlic, onion, tomato, cilantro, lemon juice, a little jalapeno, and onion salt).

However, my best secret is the professional chopper and avocado pitter I got when I registered at Williams-Sonoma for our wedding. Makes making guac go by SO much faster!

  26. Love those bowls! My ingredient is garlic powder and onion powder...always does the trick, with all of the above mentioned of course :) Found your blog through LEB, love it!

  28. My secret is using a traditional molcajete and grinding white onion and cilantro first before adding the next ingredients... its a hit every time, plus fun to use. They now sell them at Crate and Barrel I think! I'm going to try your tip and add mango this summer, that sounds delish!

  29. my tip-
first add the salt to lime juice and stir to disolve, then add other ingredients.

  30. Am I the only one who uses a pinch of ground cumin?
