The Fluff We Brush

After working as a manager of a hair salon for a couple of years, hair became more than just...well...hair. It was broken up into myriad parts, including but not limited to: the cut, color and style. Hair frames your face. And if you've ever re-framed an old piece of art, you'll see what a difference a frame can make! These days, going into the same office every morning, five days a week can become a little monotonous to say the least. And so I desire to put more of an effort into my mane. I vow to try to produce fun and new ways to spice up my hair looks throughout the week. Hopefully this blog will inspire me! One of my favorite women on this planet is Zooey Deschanel. I love her because of her unique, classic, and old-glam look, the fact that she actually can act and sing (with a great CD out called She & Him), and just seems like a girl I want to be friends with! After researching her many looks, I've pulled my favorites which each demonstrate a different hair style depending on where she was, what the weather was like, how her hair was behaving, and what mood she was in (I'm assuming all of this of course). Because we all know our mood can play a huge part in the way we get ready!

Long and flirty. This look reminds me of June Carter (Johnny Cash's lover). I love the teased up hair in the back, smoothed over, and the long curls sexily dangling over her shoulders. Not to mention the gorgeous thick bangs. I also adore the vintage shirt she's in (I love her I swear!)

Side ponytails are totally in right now. Gather hair together below one ear, which ever side you feel looks best and secure with rubber band. Then take a piece of hair from the bottom of the pony and warp around the base of the hair to cover the band. Next add a fun flower, or some other hair accessory to amp this look up. This probably will take you 5 minutes to do once you get the hang of it! For me, that's a big deal because that means I'm not spending 20+ minutes straitening it! Just curl some of the pieces afterward-much quicker!

I love this look because it truly is easy! Headbands are my go-to item when I'm in a hurry and feel like I just need a little something extra then just my hair being down lonesome-like. They also are so classy. They remind me of Audrey Hepburn. And they never go out of style! Large, thin, with a pattern or solid, sparkles or metallic’s, they are always fun! (Secure your headband with bobby-pins if you feel like it isn't going to stay all day)!

This look is awesome because you can use anything to decorate your side swept look. After braiding hair and wrapping into one larger bun, secure with same colored bobby-pins so they’ll blend in. Don’t be afraid to use hair spray! For example, I have a colorful broach from my great-grandma that would look really cool in my hair to complete this look!

  6. I love Zooey and her unique style. How awesome is she singing in the new cotton commericals? I also like her sister (she's an actress too).

  8. I have seen 500 Days of Summer; totally worth seeing! It's so cute and so are her clothes! I loove the Cotton Commercials with her singing; she has such a unique and old glam voice. After Design Esquire mentioned her sister, I saw a full page article on her and how she's vegan and how taking out soy totally cleared up her skin. She's gorgeous too! Good genes in that family!

Carlee, I remember you saying you have the Aug issue of InStyle. Is she in it? Let me know!
