+ TV IN THE BEDROOM?

I never had a TV in my bedroom until I lived with several roommates and wanted a space to escape and watch a movie with my then boyfriend, now husband.  Or, just a quiet Sunday night to watch a good ole' fashioned romcom. Unfortunately, ever since that day I can't kick the tube in the bedroom.
Fast forward from living with roommates- In Boston, Chris traveled at least once a week and now he still continues to travel a few times a month.
My point: it can be scary alone in your dark room at night & the TV makes it seem...less frightening.
Although, I'd really like to put a stop to it. I would love the bedroom to be a no electronics zone...but, what can I say, I'm addicted. Plus, sometimes it's nice when you're really, really tired...to watch a movie in bed on a Friday night. Clearly, I'm torn on this issue.

Tell me, do you have a TV in your bedroom?

  1. Before I got married, I had a TV in my bedroom because that was always pretty much my only space in an apartment! We don't have a TV in the bedroom now, but I'm sure my husband would like to have one at some point. I'm torn. I see your points, but I also like the quiet zone...

  3. My husband travels quite a bit too and I often turn on the TV in my room to make me feel safer. I wish I had the space in my room to 'hide' the tv in an armoire or something like that. Ugh... I know exactly how you feel.

  4. I don't. I can't sleep with the TV on, so I leave it out of the bedroom. I also get easily distracted by the TV, so having it in my room esp in the mornings would mean me getting to work late every day! I do wish I could have it in my room just for the weekend. Maybe a mobile TV or something...

  5. I have one in the bedroom, and the only reason I want it is to be able to watch the morning shows while I'm getting ready for work. I find it helps to wake me up. Which has me thinking that maybe in the future I will figure out a way to put one hidden in the bathroom instead.

  6. I get you on the being home alone front - TV makes it so much better! I don't have a TV in the bedroom, but I have my laptop & watch tons of movies on it... does that count?

  7. We had one for the first two years of marriage, but we haven't had one this past three years. I love it! It makes the bedroom a good retreat away from the noise, which is better for reading and sleeping. We do watch Netflix on the iPad occasionally, so no TV necessary.

  8. I have done both - no tv and tv. I really love to have it - especially to watch a modern family episode or friends before bed. I find myself watching less of it than I have in the past, which I guess is a great thing (yay me!). I do think I will always have one though...

  9. Ever since my Doctor told me to take the TV out of the bedroom, I did.
It is a good cure for restful sleep and romance.

  10. I love having a TV in the bedroom,It's kinda like being in a hotel. Nothing better than getting up early on Saturday morning having breakfast in bed with your honey and PBS cooking shows.
With that being said we have a off rule at night. If one of us has a hard time sleeping it's Ipad and headphones or the living room

  11. I'm against tv in the bedroom because I can't fall asleep if the tv is on. I know it puts most people to sleep, but my body can't rest with noise and light! My boyfriend and I also aren't huge tv fans anyway, so it works out well!

  12. I do and I love it. My husband works late and when my kids go to bed it's the only time I get to put on the box and by that time I want to curl up under the covers too!

  14. I love this topic. We had a no TV rule until we were in grad school and had 2 TVs in the house (and 2 kids)....so we had on in the main room and put the other in our bedroom. It didn't have a cable hook up, we just used it to hook our computer up to and watch movies. I must admit, I love stretching out in bed to watch a good movie. But we would only watch movies, and if both people were awake. We currently don't have a TV in our bedroom b/c we now have a basement. it's good for now b/c my husband works long hours and i think he'd get into a bad habit of just watching tv in bed instead of going strait to sleep. I too am torn on this issue. But i definitely don't judge :) loveofinteriors.blogspot.com

  15. I like having the TV in the bedroom. Enjoying lazy days/ be able to watch my own shows when the living room set is taken. To ensure that its not always on, I keep the set small and do not plug in the cable. Instead, I keep the options and costs to a minimum with just a Roku box.

  19. I've always had a TV in my room but most of the time, as a college student, I end up downloading things and watching them off my laptop on my bed! I agree, a TV always makes the room feel safer at night!

  20. We have a tv in our bedroom - mostly for the same reasons you do (my husband works a whole lot), and I'm not sure I could part with it at this point. :)

  21. My bedroom is my peaceful sanctuary, free of distractions, including a TV. I do bring my computer to bed sometimes to watch movies in bed.

  22. I have always had a tv in my bed room until this year and I am so glad I have a peaceful bedroom that is for rest and reflection.

  23. No tv in my bedroom, although I do sometimes think how nice it would be to curl up in bed with a movie. Maybe in my next apartment!

  24. We do and always will, but I completely understand why some people don't. I've heard some women say it's to keep the bedroom as an intimate and/or quiet room. We don't watch much tv (we don't even have cable), so it's really never been an issue. We definitely love cuddling up on a Friday night and watching a movie. I also like it b/c my kids will come hop in bed in the morning and watch something and that allows me to wake up slowly. When my husband had a job where he traveled a little, I definitely needed it to keep me from feeling lonely and scared at night. Our "issue" that we have to keep in check is more the laptop in bed. But the tv isn't a big deal for us.
