As the summer approaches us, most of us will switch out our winter clothes for our favorite summer outfits. This is return, may or may not lead to a bit of closet organizing. If you've been reading, you know I've been doing a bit of this myself. Here are a few of my favorite shoe storage ideas...
1. A Bookshelf
If you have a small bookshelf that isn't being used, try using it in your closet to organize shoes {small ones can actually fit in tiny closets}. Like above, you can also use the top shelf for accessories and other pretty things.
2. Boxes with tags
A few years ago I did the above. Took photographs of all my shoes and placed the photograph on the outside of the boxes. Pros: Shoes stay in top condition and the boxes look pretty stacked up. MAJOR Con: If you try on 30 pairs of shoes before picking "the ones" this is very time consuming and I would not suggest it.
3. Hanging Shoes
I never thought to hang my shoes by their heels until I moved into my recent apartment. I have built in wire shelves {left by a former tenant} that work perfectly for this. I love that they stay in their original shape and their easy to grab! Above, they've painted chair molding and added a few rows to a closet. Brilliant idea!
Other fun ones...
a magazine rack:
a vintage piece of furniture:
One last {kind of} favorite, is an overdoor storage bag. I have one attached to a wall inside of my closet, not hanging over a door. BUT, my only complaint is that some shoes get crushed so I mainly use it for flats, sandals, etc. It does save a ton of space though...
There are so many other wonderful ways to store shoes, but like the title says, this is just our top 3! What are some of your favorites? Or do you just throw them on the closet floor and let them pile up? Or maybe they don't even make it to a closet!
Great ideas beats throwing them in the closet and under the bed! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the shoe storage from Bizarkdeal for my shoes. Easy to setup and use right away. I don't own a lot of shoes, but what I do own becomes a big, annoying little pile in my closet. This fits perfect in a somewhat small closet without taking up a lot of room - I use the top part as an extra shelf too, putting some shoe boxes and other little annoying things to clear up the floor.
DeleteI'm loving the bookcase idea and the top shelf is perfect for bowls of jewelry and perfume bottles! I'm inspired to do this in my own closet!

I love the chair rail and magazine rack idea. Oh, and the lucite armchair in front of that shoe closet? I DIE!
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!
ReplyDeleteI am also diggin' the bookshelf idea - actually, i'm using an Ikea one to stack some of my shoes... If only there was enough room to have pretty boxes and tags... sigh!
For my summer flat sandals i picked up one of those hanging nylon things (Skubb) to stash my many pairs away.

love the idea of hanging them on the wall. may need to look into this further!
ReplyDeleteLove the magazine rack idea! Yeah, if I tried the shoes in the boxes, they'd all be on the floor in a matter of seconds. That is too much effort me.
ReplyDeletehanging shoes by their heels is brilliant! I love that idea! Never thought of it either!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
oh my goodness! the chair rail! love love love that idea!!!
ReplyDeleteSome good ideas here..I need all the help I can get..
ReplyDeleteI LOVE shoes (and clothes).... but don't have much storage space in my flat to store them all.. A friend of a friend recommended the flexi shoe rack.. which is absolutely brilliant (and pretty cheap).. If anyone has found anything similar for clothes please please please let me know..
I'd love room for a bookshelf in my closet. What a treat that would be. Keep the great ideas coming!
ReplyDeleteGreat Ideas. I especially love the one using chair rail moulding. What an easy and inexpensive solution.
ReplyDeleteThat magazine rack idea is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos hanging from the boxes --- and more of a wink of what shoe is inside! I inherited a built in shoe rack --- but it's not big enough for what i have, so I've got a little bit of this and a little bit of that going on!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas and I am in love with that lucite chair!
ReplyDeleteOooh! The magazine rack is a great idea! It works for your heels and flats. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteWe are so often thinking about the same things, it amazes me! I ordered and installed a bookcase in my closet about a week ago. It is so much more lovely to look at that my old metal shoe rack.

ReplyDeleteShe is a shoe designer, but still! I have this bookmarked and now the molding idea too!
Love the shoe tags.
ReplyDeleteAll of your ideas are wonderful! Very creative! I LOVE to organize too!
ReplyDeleteI like all these ideas. I really love everything organized in style.
ReplyDeleteI actually use the bookshelf idea for my boots (I have unusually large spaces between my shelves so it works perfectly). For heels, I use the clear plastic shoe boxes so i can see what's in them, however I do agree with the fact that if you have a hard time deciding what shoes to wear at the moment it can get a little crazy with all those boxes. Not to mention that stacking the boxes takes up quite a bit of space.
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to switch it up and try the chair rail idea. It looks cute and the shoes are so much more accessible. Still thinking of a solution for flats and sandals though.
Great post.
Where did you buy the boxes?

ReplyDeleteShoes should be stored properly so that they would not be scattering around or go missing. It would be easy for you to find them and could really prevent them from acquiring lots of dusts when not in use.
ReplyDeleteVery cool ideas! Really love the idea of turning everyday storage into an art form... it's functional AND looks great. :)
